FDC™ 99% Pure Soda Ash | Sodium Carbonate | Washing Soda
What is Soda Ash?
You may know Sodium Carbonate as soda ash, washing soda, solvay soda, disodium carbonate or soda crystals. This white, odorless powder can be used in hundreds of different ways. Sodium carbonate can absorb moisture in the air, or dissolve in water to increase pH and neutralize acidity.
What exactly is sodium carbonate? It's the sodium salt of carbonic acid. Often found in powder form, it's used in a wide range of industries, such as cleaning and personal care products, mold remover, gardening, and pH adjustor. One common source of washing soda is the ashes of burned plants; for this reason, it is sometimes called soda ash. It can be extracted from kelp from Scotland and seaweed from Spain. Because the ashes of these sodium-rich plants were noticeably different from ashes of timber (used to create potash), they became known as "soda ash".
Also, if you heat baking soda, its molecules react with one another to give off water and carbon dioxide and form solid sodium carbonate.
Factory Direct Chemicals 99% Pure Soda Ash comes in a convenient jar with a twist-off lid for easy transportation, application, and storage.
- Used to increase the alkalinity in swimming pools, helping to ensure the proper pH balance of the water.
- Can be used as a strong degreaser to clean greasy build up from pots and pans, oven racks, drip pans, oil stains and more.
- Effectively disinfects and softens water. Used in most dishwashing detergents, all-purpose cleaners, glass cleaners, stain removers, countertop cleaners, sanitizing sprays and bleach.
Considered to be green,
soda ash is a naturally occurring chemical found in soil and water and doesn't cause any adverse effects on wildlife or water if low amounts are released into the environment.
- Helps to boost laundry detergents by softening the water, allowing regular detergents to be easily suspended and spread in the wash. It also poses as a successful disinfecting solvent.
Sodium Carbonate is an essential component in most homemade laundry detergents for powder, liquid, or single pod formulas. It is often used in commercial detergent mixtures as well to treat hard water.
It’s great in laundry because it "softens" water helping other cleaning ingredients lift soil from the fabrics and suspend the soil in the wash water. The washing soda binds to the minerals which make water hard and allows the detergent to be absorbed into fibers properly to clean clothes. The high alkalinity of washing soda allows it to also act as a solvent in removing a wide range of stains.
Sodium carbonate is used in several cleaning products, including green cleaning ones, due to its disinfectant properties, ability to cut through grease and soften water. You can find it in automatic dishwashing detergents, all-purpose cleaners, glass cleaners, stain removers, countertop cleaners, sanitizing sprays, and bleach.
Increase Pool pH
Maintaining a balanced swimming pool pH is a vital part of swimming pool maintenance. The proper pH will help protect your metal fittings and the walls of your pool. Plus, if your pH is low you’ll experience a burning sensation. If your pH is low, try adding Soda Ash. Never add more than 2lbs per 10,000 gallons of water in your pool in any single treatment. It may cloud the pool water at first, but should fade out within a day or so.
